Fall 2020 Information, Opportunities, and Resources
Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year

The Wickliffe City School District is providing this information as a resource for students, parents, staff, and the Wickliffe Community.

The Wickliffe City School District administration, faculty, and staff understand that this is an unprecedented situation and that a lot is being asked of  students, parents, as well as school personnel. The District wants to provide as many learning opportunities for students as possible. The District respects and understands that we cannot replicate the face-to-face teaching and learning that typically takes place in our classrooms.

Please continue to check the Wickliffe City School District website for updated information.  Take care of yourself and each other.

Learning Options
The District is offering two learning options for families. Please review the information carefully and contact the main office of your child's school building for more information.

Wickliffe Remote Learning
  • A remote/online version of your child's typical school day.

  • Instruction is provided by Wickliffe City School District teachers with support from District staff.
  •
  • Instruction is delivered in a variety of formats, including Google Classroom, Google Meets, and Zoom.

  • Students may have face-to-face opportunities with staff and other students for small-group or 1:1 learning based on current public health guidance.

  • Students will have a school day schedule and will move from class to class via remote learning.
  •
  • Courses will be graded and students will be evaluated using typical assessments, projects, and work. Learning indicators specific and appropriate for the grade will be utilized.  For example, students in grades 3-12 will receive letter grades as they would in a face-to-face setting.
  •
  • High School courses will be credit-bearing and "count" for graduation like they do on a normal school year
  •
  • Teachers will be working typical school day hours and will be available for individual and small-group assistance, intervention, and extension.
  •
  • When students are able to return to face-to-face instruction they will seamlessly transition since their scheduled classes will not change.
  •
  • Holidays and non-school days will be treated like they are in a normal school year.
  •
  • School day schedule:  WES:  8:30-11:30 and 1:30-3:00; WMS:  8:30-11:30 and 12:30-2:30; WHS:  9:15-10:45 and 11:00-2:30.  Students at all schools will receive an individual student schedule based on grade and/or selected courses.
  •
  • Attendance Policy: WCSD Remote Learning Attendance

Wickliffe Online Learning (powered by Calvert Learning / Edmentum Learning)
  • Students will take coursework on the Calvert Learning (grades K-6) and Edmentum Learning (grades 7-12).
  •
  • Courses are aligned with Ohio Department of Education and Wickliffe standards.
  •
  • Edmentum courses have been used for selected students at WHS for several years.
  •
  • Courses are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  •
  • Learning is self-paced and often based on completion. Students will need to demonstrate a significant amount of self-discipline to meet requirements and complete coursework.
  •
  • Students often find that they are able to move quickly through certain courses but may struggle in others. Mathematics courses tend to be challenging for many students.
  •
  • Students earn traditional letter grades based on mastery of the material.
  •
  • Students will have limited interaction with Wickliffe staff. Calvert and Edmentum classes are meant to be completed without significant assistance from teachers.
  •
  • Instruction is provided by reading, viewing videos, and completing work and projects that are submitted to the learning system.
  •
  • Students will not have a typical Wickliffe schedule.
  •
  • Students are encouraged to select this option for at least one quarter. High School students are strongly encouraged to complete at least the first semester and then transition back to WHS. This makes the transfer of credits easier and prevents students from having to retake courses.
  •
  • High School students who do not complete coursework may have to retake an entire semester or year as no credit is awarded for courses that are not completed.
  •
  • Students who transition to face-to-face learning after the 1st quarter may have different courses than they did online.
  •
  • Registration information on the WCSD Homepage
Electronic Devices
  • All Wickliffe students will be provided with an electronic device:  elementary students will receive an iPad and middle and high school students will receive a laptop.
  •
  • Devices will be available for sign-out and pick up during each schools' orientation program.
  •
  • WiFi hotspots will be available for no-cost to those families who do not have internet service.
  •
  • Families will be required to sign a technology contract prior to receiving their device(s).

Food Service
  • The Wickliffe City School District will continue to operate our food service department.  Wickliffe students may pick-up lunch and breakfast (for the following day) each day at Wickliffe High School.  Meal service will be pre-packed and "grab and go."  More information, including menus and pick up times:  WCSD Food Service
