Governor's Budget - TPP Reimbursement

Governor's Budget - TPP Reimbursement

Education and Finance Committee Members

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The governor's proposed budget includes the phase out and elimination of the Tangible Personal Property (TPP) tax reimbursement. The TPP reimbursement is an important source of funding for our district. As you may remember, the TPP tax was a business tax that was removed as part of overall tax reform in 2005 as a way to improve the business climate in Ohio. TPP taxes were local dollars that were paid directly to schools. The phase out of TPP reimbursements would result in the district losing close to eight mills of funding (about $2.1 million per year). Such a loss would create an immediate need for increased revenue

Our district has already absorbed $1.3 million in lost revenue as the state cut back on these reimbursements. We are now collecting $633,534.00 less a year than we did prior to 2005.

It is important that we contact our elected representatives and urge them to reject the governor's proposal to phase out the reimbursement. I have attached a letter that you can email Representative Rogers and Senator Yuko. I have also attached the names and email addresses of the members of the finance and education committees of the House so that you may send the letter to them. Hearings on the budget occur this week, so it is important to communicate with the members of the committees this week. Please take the time to send the letter to the committee members (contact information attached) and our representatives (contact information below).

I recommend using your personal email and sending the letter as a concerned citizen. When you open the letter, you will need to sign your name and add your contact information to it, otherwise the letter is complete.

Thanks,

Joe
