Important Information

Important Information

Here is some helpful information that you will need to know to get this school year off to a great start:

Communication
Communication between school and home is vital. If you need to speak with me, please use one of the following methods:
  1. Email me at [email protected]
  2. Send a note in your child’s BEE folder
  3. Call the school at 943-0320
Please keep me informed of any changes that occur that may affect your child. If your child’s transportation method for going home changes, I will need a note or phone call a day ahead of time. If I do not receive notice, your child will go home according to their typical routine.

Snack
Students can bring a snack to eat during the afternoon. The snack should not be candy. Since we have no refrigeration please avoid dairy products, especially with hot weather. Some good ideas for snack are goldfish, crackers, grapes, carrots, graham crackers, or raisins. Foods that are easy to eat and do not make a mess are great : )

Homework/Assignments
Your child will receive a monthly homework packet. They are to be returned on the last school day each month. Please help your child complete each page at their pace. Let your child do the writing on all assignments unless otherwise noted. Assignments will come home weekly and sometimes daily, depending on what we accomplish in class and in small group. My goal is to have individual assignments for students to complete at home based on their work in small groups throughout the day. I will be checking off monthly homework packets and grading weekly assignments at my discretion. Completed work will go home in your child’s BEE folder.
Please read with your child every night. 15 minutes of daily reading has a lasting positive effect on children. Our unified goal is to inspire a passion for words and literature.

BEE Folder
Your child will have a “BEE” folder. This will act as a connection between school and home. All notes and other communication should be transported via this folder. Your child’s work and other papers will also make their way to and from school in the BEE folder. Our color/behavior chart will also be folded in a clear pouch in the folder. The behavior calendar should be looked over and/or discussed with your child daily, signed, then returned for the next day of school.

Rules and Rewards
Our classroom has four rules to be followed all day at school:
  1. Follow adult directions
  2. Keep hands, feet, and things to myself
  3. Treat people and things how we want to be treated
  4. Use kind words only
GREAT behavior will be rewarded with Core Value Coupons. Each time a student earns a coupon they will have the chance to put it toward a monthly, quarterly, or yearly reward. I will also have other classroom incentives throughout the year.
Poor choices will be handled according to our classroom color system. I will communicate poor choices with parents via the BEE folder or a phone call if necessary.

Drop Off/Pick Up
Our school day begins at 8:30am. Students are tardy after 8:40am. Again, please let me know if your child’s dismissal routine is to change. School ends at 3:00pm.

Specials Schedule
  • Monday- Music
  • Tuesday- Computer
  • Wednesday- Physical Education
  • Thursday- Art
  • Friday- Library and FLEX special (changes quarterly)

Birthdays
If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at school, please notify me ahead of time. If you decide to send in a birthday treat make sure to follow the school handbook regarding treats. All treats need to be store bought and individually wrapped and made in a peanut free facility. Non food items are a GREAT option!! (ex. pencils, stickers, erasers...)

Mystery Reader
The mystery reader is a great program that allows parents and/or family members to read to our class. More information about this will be available in the future.

Cool Cat of the Week
Each week a new student will be chosen as our “Cool Cat.” There will be a list of things to complete or bring in so your child, our star of the week, can help their classmates learn more about them. This is a great opportunity for students to show what makes them special!
