Title 1 Federal Program

Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through four statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state.

Title I funds provide additional academic support and learning opportunities to help low-achieving children master challenging curricula and meet state standards in core academic subjects. For example, funds support extra instruction in reading and mathematics. Wickliffe Elementary is a Title I building and therefore offers support programs for children in both reading and math as well as curriculum materials which serve all students. Mrs. Lanese and Mrs. Syracuse are the instructors for Title reading and Mrs. Drenski is the instructor for Title math. Each of our students receives a series of assessments which assist in making the decision as to the need for services. Should your child meet the criteria you will be contacted for your permission to participate in the program. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or any of our Title I staff.
