Important Information Regarding Classroom Parties and Birthday Celebrations

Classroom Parties and Birthday Celebrations

Food and Treat Building Procedures

In an attempt to create a clear set of guidelines for teachers and parents to follow and to keep our students with allergies safe, we are setting forth the following procedures. We have developed a basic guideline of acceptable foods for most classes. Because a variety of allergies and health conditions exist in our school, some changes may be made for certain classes to address student needs. For these classrooms, we will be asking parents of children with health issues to be VERY involved in the planning of parties and/or special events to ensure the safety of the children.

Holiday Parties

We are trying to maintain a more healthy approach to foods throughout the district and our Holiday parties are no exception. Below is a list of acceptable foods for MOST classrooms. No more than one item per column should be chosen. All food should be coordinated through the head room parent and classroom teacher. Unsolicited food products will be sent back home if they are unsafe in a classroom where there are students with health issues. Teachers will be responsible to monitor snacks brought in during holiday parties and coordinate activities with parent volunteers.

Fruits and Vegetables

Snack Items

Other

*Any whole fruit

(apples, oranges, bananas,

clementines)

*Applesauce cups

*Fruit Roll Ups

*Fruit Flavored Snacks

*Goldfish crackers

*Graham crackers

*Animal crackers

*Pretzels

*Teddy Grahams

*Lays original potato chips

*Keebler Vanilla Wafers

*Oreos-original

*Kellogg’s Rick Krispie Treats

While this is not an exhaustive list, we would like to keep the sugar content down during our Holiday parties while making sure we are offering snacks that are kid friendly to all. Parents that have children with allergies (who are not involved in the planning process) will be contacted before the party so they will know what is being offered and can provide input or suggest an alternative snack, if necessary.

Birthday Treats

We are recommending that birthday treats be non-food items as we transition in the 2017-2018 school year to non-food item birthday treats. At a minimum, we request the above lists be followed if an edible treat is chosen. These future changes will continue to be communicated to parents during Open House and throughout the year in newsletters.
