Welcome to Music!

5th Grade General Music and Choir:  This class meets every day for 42 minutes all year.  Some students who choose to alternate band and choir will have choir on even days and band on odd days.  Their schedule will show "TR" for choir and "MWF" for band.  This does not mean they have choir on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and band on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  It means they have choir on even days and band on odd days.  Unfortunately, this is the only way our computer system can show the alternation.

Half of our class time is spent as General Music and half the time will be spent singing.  We will have 2 concerts to prepare for - winter and spring.  This is a 2 part, Soprano and Alto choir.  However, we will start with rounds and partner songs, which will help the students transition to the 2 part.

Students will perform for the winter and spring concerts.  Concert attire is dressy white shirt, dressy black pants and dressy black shoes.  They start at 7pm.  Students should be at the middle school by 6:30, in the vocal room.  Details to follow.

6th Grade Choir:  This class meets every day for 42 minutes all year, unless students choose to alternate band on odd days and choir on even days (as in 5th grade above).  We will be spending most of our time singing on the risers, with occasional written work that teaches the Ohio Music Standards.

Students will perform for the winter and spring concerts.  Concert attire is dressy white shirt, dressy black pants or skirt and dressy black shoes.  They start at 7pm. Students should be at the middle school by 6:30, in the vocal room. Details to follow.  We will also be attending a FREE field trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in May!

7th/8th Grade Choir:  This group is shown together here because they perform the same music together at all performances.  Each class meets every day for 42 minutes all year, with the exception of students who choose to alternate with band on odd days.

Students will perform for the winter and spring concerts, will sing the Star Spangled Banner at the Captain's Stadium in April, and will sing at contest in May at a school in Sandusky, followed by a trip to Cedar Point!  Attire for concerts is the white Music Department polo shirt, dressy black pants or skirt, and dressy black shoes.  If your child does not own a polo shirt, they can order one through Mrs. Morris at the beginning of the school year.  More details to follow.

This is a 3 part, Soprano, Alto and Baritone chorus.  We spend most of the time learning our music on the risers, but will have occasional written work to facilitate the learning of the Ohio Music Standards.  Details on concert dates will follow.

7th Grade Music Appreciation:  This class meets every day for 42 minutes, one quarter per year.  We will be learning some basic music theory, how to play the piano, music history, and students will be writing a short composition of their own.
